DÂ-NIYI

A modular chair system drawing from the Nuna dâgalo chair tradition of Burkina Faso and reimagining seating as a framework for gathering.

The chair

One is a chair. More becomes a space.

What if furniture could create the conditions of a courtyard without building its walls?

DÂ-NIYI revisits the three-legged stance and elongated back of the dâgalo through aluminum and white oak. Each chair stands as a complete object, while a discreet removable connection system allows individual seats to form pairs, gatherings, and circles.

The result is a study in how furniture can move between solitary use and collective arrangement—between the intimacy of a seat and the possibility of a shared space.

Individual in form. Collective by design.
The practice

Design for the present tense.

AGBOLÉ OYÈ is an independent design practice creating sculptural, collectible furniture, lighting, and objects.

Informed by the structural, material, and social intelligence of African vernacular design, the studio brings cultural research and contemporary experimentation into conversation. Its work considers how objects hold memory, shape relationships, and create new possibilities for the spaces we inhabit.

Omolola Oyetubo / Founder

From environments to objects.

Omolola Oyetubo is a Nigerian-Jamaican American designer and cultural practitioner working across furniture, objects, and spatial experiences. With a background in cultural anthropology, her practice explores the relationships between material culture, memory, and contemporary life.

Through HOUSE OF OYE, founded in 2023, she developed exhibitions and gathering experiences centered on African and diasporic culture. AGBOLÉ OYÈ carries these inquiries into collectible design, shifting her focus from the environments objects inhabit to the objects themselves.
